In a post last year about inspiration I suggested a number of ways to get those creative juices flowing. so over the next few days I will start working through some of these ideas.

One other thing and for me the most important, is to just pick up the camera a go for a walk. Tomorrow’s weather is looking good and there is a park about a minutes walk from the office so I will just go out and shoot. What will I shoot? I have no idea but I often find that inspiration strikes as soon as the camera is in my hand. The main thing is to stop thinking and just feel.

So let us see what happens when I turn the brain off and just let the camera do its stuff.

There is nothing wrong in jumping on a bandwagon and joining in with the ride. In the case of FIFA that particular musical train pulled into town and hitched its horses many moons ago and its occupants can still to be found in the local saloon telling everyone else what is wrong with the Wold Footballs Governing Body. In this instance I am very late to the party but I thought I would still join them at the bar and throw in my two penneth worth of worldly wisdom

The problem is that everyone has lots of ideas of how to make things better.
Sack Blatter; sack all the exec; give the job to Michel Platini; get one of the folks from the Olympics to help with reforms; legislate for more openness and governance; external independent scrutiny; shared power, etc etc etc. All perfectly good ideas and a balance of these will certainly bring about change, and change is certainly needed.

None of these however, address the real root problem. The general public feel that things that there is something rotten in the state of Zurich. Recent allegations have helped fuel this feeling. Whether they are right or wrong, perception is reality and Sepp Blatter along with his cohorts, need to respond to this situation. A starting point should be a recognition that there is indeed something wrong and in his speech speech on Monday, Blatter declared that “Football is not in a crisis, only some difficulties”.

What the public wanted was a barnstorming rhetoric about how things will change and that Sepp Blatter will make it a personal mission over his next term of presidency to introduce wide ranging and sweeping reforms, with total transparency being the organisations new mantra. What we got was “I think FIFA is strong enough that we can deal with our problems inside FIFA.”

Recognition that there are problems, yes; a statement about doing something about them, yes; giving confidence that there will be changes, no; suggesting that things will improve, no; hinting about reform, no.

This was Sepp Blatters Rubicon, a chance to stride forward and make change but, just like on many previous occasions it seems that it still is, a bridge too far.
